“I don’t know anything about the England job. I’ve not even thought about it,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News on Thursday.
“I’ve got a job to do, I’ve got a big game on Saturday with Tottenham. Tottenham is my focus.”
There are many reasons why Redknapp should not leave north London to manage the Three Lions, but I only have time to touch on five of them today.
5. Gareth Bale
Under Redknapp, Bale won the PFA Player of the Year award for the 2010-11 season.
When Bale has been at his best, Tottenham Hotspur have been at their best, and that is no coincidence.
The Welshman is constantly being linked with moves away from White Hart Lane, but if Redknapp stays, which he should, Bale will surely remain a Tottenham player.
4. The Three Lions Curse
England last won the World Cup in 1966, after defeating West Germany 4-2 in the final.
They have not won an international competition since, and do not look a serious threat to challenge for the 2012 European Championships in all honesty.
In retrospect, Redknapp has Spurs in third-place in the English Premier League at the moment. That says it all.
3. Title Challengers
Although Tottenham are seven points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, they are still genuine title contenders.
That being said, it would be quite an improbable triumph is Spurs managed to win the Premier League, but I have seen crazier things happen.
2. The Future is Bright
Harry Redknapp deserves a lot of credit for turning Spurs into a legitimate title contenders not only for this season, but for seasons to come.
He’s stockpiled a lot of young talent at White Hart Lane, including the likes of: Sandro, Gareth Bale, Kyle Walker, Jake Livermore and Steven Caulker, who is currently on loan at Swansea City.
Why leave Tottenham Hotspur when the future looks so promising for the club?
1. UEFA Champions League Football in 2012-13
The number one reason why Harry Redknapp should not leave Spurs to boss England is surely because Tottenham will be playing UEFA Champions League football next season.
Tottenham did very well in the Champions League last season, but eventually ran into a far-superior Real Madrid side.
I’m not predicting that Tottenham will win the Champions League next season, but I fancy them to do very well yet again.
That should be enough to convince Redknapp to stay put, but we shall see what happens.
