I’m not Superman, insists Van der Vaart upon completing Hamburg return

The Dutch forward has tried to clarify that in spite of his excitement at rejoining the German club, his impact will not be as emphatic as some fans might expect

New Hamburg signing Rafael van der Vaart has played down the hype surrounding his transfer from Tottenham, claiming he is "no Superman".
The 29-year-old sealed a return to the Imtech Arena on Friday for a fee in the region of 13 million, and his switch has been met with overriding delight from the side's supporters.
However, despite his cult status at the Bundesliga outfit, Van der Vaart told reporters: “Of course I’m not Superman or Messi or Ronaldo. I think I can help the club, though.
"I have continued to follow the team, of course, and I think the team is very good, with many talented players."
The Dutchman was a fans favourite at Hamburg, scoring 29 goals in 74 league appearances for the club between 2005 and 2008, before moving to Real Madrid.
Notably, Van der Vaart indicated his own anticipation to pull on the familiar shirt again, as he quipped: "You never forget a club like HSV."
He is likely to make his second Hamburg debut against Bremen on Saturday.
